I liked, but not loved, Trek IX. You elaborated a lot of my issues with it. Every time Chekov opened his mouth, the friends I went with and I would just start laughing because we couldn't understand anything. I thought the spacejump was cool, but as soon as I figured out the redshirt wasn't Scotty (he hadn't been intro'd at that point and I knew he was in the movie), I knew he was going to bite it and I couldn't watch. The Spock/Uhura thing ... eh, I dunno. There's some eyebrow-raising stuff in TOS between them, and I heard somewhere that there was supposed to be a "thing" between Spock and Uhura in TOS, but that sort of got transferred to an unrequited "thing" between Spock and Chapel. But the "Tell Nyota ..." stuff was so UN-SPOCK. Quinto is hot as hell, though.
The new Kirk ... somehow, I felt the movie wasn't really all about HIM as it was about Spock!prime and the destruction of Vulcan. Kirk was just kinda there.
And Nimoy is a fucking God.
Truth: I will see the sequels, as I am a diehard, and most things Trek (with the exception of Voyager and Enterprise) thrill me. This was better, for me, than Nemesis, but not at all coming close to Wrath of Khan or Search For Spock, which are my top two fave ST movies.
