The time had long since passed when there was time for the playful dance they used to employ and Garak was frankly too relieved to see Julian again to even bother with the slightest attempt at obfuscation as had been his habit earlier.

I think that would fit more if it were Julians view. Somehow I can not see Garak ever getting tired of his masks.
