Formatting my PC failed due to "damaged harddrive". I guess this means back to the repair shop and probably cashing out for a new motherboard and/or a new harddrive. Crap. Did not expect a large cash drain this month. :o(

If it's your harddrive that's crapped out, you shouldn't need a new motherboard, just buy a new drive, unhook the the cable to the old one and replace it.

...then re-install your OS and your files and you're good to go.

That sucks, it does! Let's hope for 'only' a new harddrive. Motherboards are so effing expensive.
