Fannish Friday Five... thingy...

From [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 .

If you could erase five characters from any fandom, who would you choose?

1: Princess Anna Valerius from Van Helsing.
She is a clear cut example of the apparently unavoidable female love interest, in an otherwise great movie, that could do very well without.
2. Kara from Dragonheart.
Basically same deal as #1 here.
3. Ezri Dax from Star Trek Deep Space 9.
Whoever thought it was such a great idea to bring in a new character to what everybody knew was the last season of a show, should really get a good kick in the rear. Way too many episodes were wasted on developing a character that we totally didn't need.
4. Batgirl from Batman and Robin.
As if the movie wasn't bad enough, this batgirl was just the icing on the digusting cake. Not to mention they screwed over the comic background of her completely!! With her gone, there would be one less thing for me to groan about in that movie.
5. I'm determied to have at least 1 male character on this list, so # 5 goes to Sandman from Spiderman 3.
It's like they didn't think 2 problems was enough for Spiderman! Honestly, that movie could have been so much better if the screentime had gone to Harry!Goblin and Venom! Yes please!

Yeah I don't like Ezri either. I'd rather have had no replacement for Jadzia than that... well, brat. I can't think of another word. She was always whiny and the episodes that focused on her BORED me to tears.

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I just... didn't like her. At all.

Oh and... whiny? See icon..

[identity profile] lonespark.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Kara? Really?

You are sooo right about Spiderman 3.

I kind of agree about Ezri, but it's more like, as you say, I didn't like the focus of the season. She could have been ok as a more minor character whose arc involved her getting the hell off the station much earlier.

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I dunno why, I've always seen her as something that didn't quite belong in that movie. *shrug* I dunno why. Maybe I just always saw Draco and Bowen as the centre of the story, never mind anyone else.

Actually, yes, I think I would have liked Ezri better, had she not eaten up so much time of the last season...

[identity profile] cyranothe2nd.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
WORD! I hate that lame-ass Ezri is the one to gain Garak's trust and work out his issues...like WUT? Why???

I agree about Anna V. and about Sandman as well.

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god YES!!! Especially the way she supposedly helped him with his anxiety.

FUCK YOU PARABORG! IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT!! DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH!!!

Ahem.

[identity profile] cyranothe2nd.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
That said, "Afterimage" did have some delightful Garak lines in it. Too bad the ending took them all back...

"Spare me your insipid psychobabble. I'm not some quivering neurotic who feels sorry for himself because his daddy wasn't nice. You couldn't begin to understand me!"

"I want someone to help me get back to work. And you, my dear, are not up to this task. I mean, look at you. You’re pathetic – a confused child trying to live up to a legacy left by her predecessors. You're not worthy of the name "Dax." I knew Jadzia. She was vital, alive. She owned herself, and you... you don’t even know who you are. How dare you presume to help me? You can't even help yourself. Now, get out of here before I say something unkind."

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! The setup for the episode was awesome, and then they just screwed over Garak's character like that, not to mention spitting forcefully in the face of anyone suffering from anxiety attacks at the same time.

*grrr*

I actually liked Ezri *blush* and concerning how much I disliked the Worf/Dax marriage, I totally liked the way they were handled when Ezri and Worf needed to iron things out.

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually liked the Ezri/Worf problem episodes. Just... Ezri in general anoyed me.

But you never know about these things. I was totally prepared to HATE Ziyal for being Garak's unavoidable het love interest, but actually, I can't help but like her. She's adorable. Too bad she had to die.

[identity profile] cyranothe2nd.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
I like Worf/Dax...much better than Worf/Troi anyway. The problem with Worf is that he's just so booooring! But I kind of understood what Dax saw in him-quietness, strength and a lingering sort of tenderness. IDK, I thought their relationship was cute.

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I like Worf. Granted, he's not exactly the life of the party, but like you say, it was actually a nice counterpart for Jadzia's wild chick attitude. :o)

I loved Worf/Jadzia. I even kinda liked Worf/Ezri.

Just... couldn't really stand Ezri herself.

Well, even as I don't hate Ezri, I really don't like her.
But, OMG! Wesley Crusher in ST-TNG!!! *push him into a black hole*
Horatio Caine in CSI-Miami. So... stiff. Yeah, one of the reasons I don't watch that show.
Lara Lang in Smallville. Hell, writers couldn't have done a worst character if they try!
Mmmm... I don't know if I have another character that I really, really dislike...
But my head is hurting, and I caught a cold, so... not a very functional birggitt, here... *sigh*

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I... actually like Wesley. *blush*

And... I love Horatio Caine and his stupid one-liners. Hehe.

I hope you feel better soon.

*laughs* To each their own! You can rescue him form the black hole :)

I need to rewatch ST-DS9, but I'm a solid 3 weeks behind new shows, so... I won't happen soon *sigh* Maybe when my parents come in December, as they both are Star Trek fans (We are a trekkie family, LOL!).

I'm feeling ok right now, and I hope I still will tonight. I don't want to ruin my friends night.

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"C'mere Wes, baby. Hide under momma's wing." *smoooch*

"Wait? Where're you going? Why're you runnin'? Come back!"

"...coward."

Good luck with tonight. :o)

*laughs* Well... his all innocence and blushing, you should try with a more subtle approach *ggg*

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I never was subtle with boys. I tended to scare them away with either loud declarations of my undying love for them, or embarrass them with letters of pouring out my heart. *sigh*

Poor boys.

[identity profile] birggitt.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Sometimes direct approach is not the best!
But I see the appeal: sometimes, you get bored waiting they gave the first step.

[identity profile] mithrel.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I always shipped Carl/Van Helsing and ignored Anna, although I did like Kara. And don't get me started on Ezri (again interfering with the slash!) Can't comment on 4, but it did seem like they tried to do too much in Spiderman 3.

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I ship Carl/Van Helsing too, but I hated Anna before I shipped them.

[identity profile] xiilnek.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Sincere agreement on all! (I can't remember who Kara is though.)

Most of them were girls, yes, but there is a reason for that. Since pretty much everything's already been written already at some point it's impossible to avoid cliches, but I feel female characters get hit particularly hard with that. A woman as a main character? Bound to be the love interest. Etc. *sighs*

[identity profile] lady-drace.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly my point. You tend to forget Kara... so what is she there for?

And god yes, women=love interests is the utmost fail in fiction.
