Help! Anyone??

Ok, I am now desperate. I have been searching for years for a way to remove the vocals from songs or find a place to download the instrumental versions of songs. Neither has prived possible so far, so now I turn to my f-list.

I've stumbled across one hideous karaoke version after another, and decided that I find that completely disgusting. I want the original backing track or nothing. So, I guess here's what I need:

Either: A site for download of songs without vocals. Preferably free, since I'm very uneasy about buying music over the web and I do have excellent virus protection if I should trip over some nasties.

Or: A program to remove the vokals myself from the songs I want. And also a beginner's guide for dummies on how to do so would be much appreciated.

Can anyone at least point me in the right direction? Anyone?
