Ranting and debate.
Sep. 16th, 2009 12:02 pmTime for one of my rare posts with some actual real life contents.
The other day there was an article in a Danish newspaper about this "overlooked illness" in women. It was about PCOS and presented a list of symptoms of said syndrome. Like excess hair growth, obesity, depression and irregular/missing periods. (More info here)
Now, I'm totally ready to accept that certain women really have this illness and are horribly ashamed of it, keeping it a secret and not getting treatment. What really bothered me was some of the reactions the article provoked. While reading the article, I heard several COMPLETELY NORMAL WOMEN saying: "OMG, I think I have this! See, I got these hairy legs, my period is never on time and I have to pluck my chin every week."
Stand by for rant... sorry to tell you this ladies but... WOMEN ARE SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THAT! If women don't shave, pluck, wax or whatever, we're ALL hairy! Everywhere! Yes! Even on the upper lip, between the eyebrows or god forbid, below the navel! Hairy ass? We has it, ladies! LIVE WITH IT!!!! I get so angry when I hear these young, lovely women thinking they're abnormal, simply because they don't look like a billboard. I wish we could get some more realistic women in the media. Someone with hairy armpits, acne, crooked noses, uneven boobs and round bellies.
End rant.
I for one am ready to stand up and admit, yes. I have hair. Between my legs, on my ass, on my upper lip, under my arms, on my legs, my chin, my toes, my lower arms, in my nose, between my eyebrows, even a few stubborn ones in a few of my birthmarks! And I've got zits. And scabs. And scars. And stretchmarks. And fat everywhere. I've got crooked teeth, my right boob is bigger than the left, and the nipple on the bigger one sits lower than the other. I get bogies in my nose, bad breath, yellow teeth, greasy hair. I fart, I burp, I pick my nose when there's something really annoying in it.
It's disgusting, but it's normal. Live with it, people.
