So, finally some good news. My washing machine is finally plugged in. Clean clothes. Yessss.
Super was here most of today, fixing all kinds of annoying niggles. Like all the loose or leaking faucets, wacky electrical sockets, the broken drawer in the kitchen, the trashed shower-head thing, the rust on the bathroom sink, the broken light in the kitchen, the trash-bag holder thingy under the kitchen sink... and last but in all seriousness not least, the goddamn toilet paper holder which kept falling apart. He'll be back to fix the outside light, the rusty hinges on the cabinet in the kitchen, the handle on the bedroom cabinet door, the gap in the door to the garden, not to mention put my name on the mailbox and door, get me a new lock for the shed, new keys for the inside doors and some cover thingies for the radiator pipes.
Oh, and at some point an electrician will come by to fix the socket for the washing machine (which was ripped out of the wall), and the front door will be painted and best of all, I'm getting a new toilet bowl which is a luxury I've never known and pleases me to an embarrassing degree.
Yeah. When I said this place was a mess, I wasn't kidding.
I also got a pump and a lock for my bike, so with a little luck I should be able to ride it tomorrow.
And finally, I got to the next city and applied for welfare, so that ball is rolling at least.
Oh, and when I woke up this morning I only had one new flea bite, as opposed to the dozens I've endured daily since I moved in. This calls for a victory dance!
Other good stuff which is worth noting is that the water here is different and my skin really really likes it. Every time I shower I come out feeling softer than silk. It's awesome. And my mother claims that I'll feel it in my clothes after washing too. Also awesome.
The area is also as wonderfully rich in animal life as I'd hoped, since it's rural. Every day I see flocks of geese flying overhead, last week a group of swans, as well as rabbits and pheasants. I love it and I can't wait for warmer weather so I can take my bike to the grasslands and the wooded areas nearby.
But tomorrow is another day.
