I guess in very closed societies, you can convince people of the most amazing things. Sadly, though, I doubt people like those will ever have access to such Hellish influences as The Internet, where they can have such myths debunked.
I'll just go ahead and cry for all the people going through life thinking that they're filthy or sinners for giving themselves pleasure. :o(
