Today I posted on fanficrants  and apparently my post was nothing short of a mortal sin. We're now in the 80's in number of comments and only about 5 of them have been remotely kind. The rest seem to find it extremely offensive that something I don't know a lot about annoys me. Heck I even asked for advice if anyone knew better than me!

I want to leave, since it's seriously bringing me down that so many people deliberately twist my words and try to make me look bad. But I hate to just leave without defending myself. I'm being stupid aren't I? I bet I'm just feeding their flaming frenzy by replying at all. I should really just leave and leave them to think I'm a stupid bitch. They already seem to think that anyway.

I'm an idiot.

Edit: Ok, I left. I suddenly remembered that it's not just me being affected by this. By stressing out over this, I'm affecting the Green Pea! And I will not allow that to happen to preserve my pride or whatever!

People can get very self-righteous and know-it-all-ish on the internet. If you are ever in a community and that happens again, ditch immediately. It's not worth your time.

Oh, there are mean comms out there. I got blasted in a political com for a minor infraction. I know it hurts in the moment, but don't pay the least bit of attention to it. You did the right thing -- you just leave.

People who are needlessly mean and rude are stunted people who need to put others down to feel better about themselves. Just pity them, and know how much better a person you are.

And if I ever hear you trashing yourself, I'll come over there and slap you silly. -- No, I won't. I'll just give you a big hug and tell you how great you are. There may be chocolate involved, too. :D

I just went over there and read the whole freaking thread. I understand what you are saying about yaoi...I too get confused between slash and yaoi. I figure that yaoi is underage gay sex and slash is overage gay sex.

But yeah--I say the less stress for you the better. Fuck 'em.

I took a look at it - really, WTF? Some people really deliberately misunderstand stuff. You don't dislike yaoi, FFS. You ASKED why everyone always has Japanese names. WTF. o_O And yes, I'd have left, too.

Hehe, fanficrants is a place where everybody can feel entitled to shout at everybody over everything. The funniest thing that ever happened to me there was when I posted a rant about Metalocalypse (there's this chara who is always written as a 30-year-old virgin with no explanation for it, why the hell do they do that?)

... whereupon I got complaints from several (!) 30-ear-old virgins (!!), telling me that they were normal humans who JUST HAD NEVER HAD SEX, OKAY?? and not weird at all, damn it!
Apart from the whole TMI factor, they just wouldn't get that this was not about them. But after the fourth attempt of explaining it to the raging 30-year-old virgins, I started thinking: what the hell am I doing here - arguing with a bunch of 30-year-old virgins?

No, really. The only thing I could still tell them at that point would be: Hey, I know why you're still a virgin.
