Interesting fandom comparison.

Well I've been a rabid Garak/Bashir fan for about a year now, and certain trends in the fandom are more or less ordinary for me now. Like BDSM!Garak, teary!Bashir and general mindfuckery from Garak's side.

So now I just joined the Arthur/Merlin fandom, and right away it jumps out at me that it's a completely different set of trends there. Now, I've only been at it for a day or so, but the first 25 fics or so I've looked at have often been either modern times themed or genderbender fics. Not that either squicks me (Although, the modern times thing doesn't really catch my fancy) it's just so jarringly different from my G/B experience.

It really underlines that I've really stepped onto completely new ground. It's awesome. :o)

Also... this gets me hot for some reason... (wtf, foot fetish?!)

Oh! the footsie scene! So cute!
As a matter of fact, the whole episode is wonderful, for soooooooooooo so many reasons!
I used to have an icon with that scene, but I change it because of Christmas or Valentine Day or something, and now, I can find it anymore, lol!
And yes, these are two very different fandoms. But seriously, the sheer amount of fiction in Merlin is overwhelming. You'll find... well, everything. Believe me, I don't read genderfuck, and still I can't keep with fiction :)

Yup, evey fandom is different, with it's own set of informal rules, trends, and commonly held fanon view of things. Also, some fandoms are more friendlier than others. HP fandom comes to mind... >>.>>

I'm pretty sure you'll never see me in the HP fandom. I absolutely love the books. So much so that the last few films have been downright offensive to me and the idea of fanfiction makes me a little uncomfortable.

Although... on deviantart Sirius/Lupin is my guilty pleasure...

LOL, srsly I can't stand feet.

However, I *have* been intending to write a BDSM G/B story, although I was going to have Bashir be the top and base it on that scene on the Defiant, when Garak was acting like a complete bitch to Bashir (after the fact that he was genetically augmented came out), like calling him a computer and a Vulcan...can't remember the name of the episode unfortunately. But yeah, will get around to writing it. Eventually.
