A study of scales.

I know, I'm obsessed. But the drabble-ish fic I posted yesterday set me off on a feverish hunt to find screenshots that would show us Garak-lovers that lovely patch of scales. To my unending frustration, there were as good as no shots of Garak from behind, while Dukat was flaunting his impossibly long neck at every opportunity. Ok, he inspired the whole design of the race, and I suppose the makeup people want some credit for hours of airbrushing. But still I would have liked more of Garak.
First of all, Dukat's pride. Nice I must say, but one pic is enough. There are plenty of screencaps of this neck, they jump out at you all the time. So... on to Garak!
Now Garak's scales seem mostly airbrushed like Dukat's. Sometimes they are darkly outlined like here.
And sometimes they are more subtly laid out. I do like both styles though. And We don't exactly know how the blushing mechanism works with Cardassians, so it's quite possible the scales darken or maybe just become more pronounced when their blood rises.
Another problem is the constant shifts in skin color which affect the look of the scales from time to time. Where they on the darker greyish skin seem shadowed and give the nice illusion of being textured, this lighter pinkish skin doesn't give the same impression. But it seems that the make-up artist where aware of this, and consequently they changed to look of the scales again, to be outlined more thinly apparently.
But then, every once in a while, we are rewarded with pure art!!! Maybe some days they had more time than others and decided to give the scales somebeautiful attention. Not the entire neck is textured scale, but much more seem to be laid out with the shaped latex than before. Needless to say, times like these makes me very happy.
This one in particular!!!
End squee.
